COMPUTERS
Computers can help people with dyslexia, whether they have severe
or non-severe problems. As long as their PC is pentium 3 or above or AMD 500
or a Mac with OS 9 or above. They must also have a printer and scanner and speech
regcognition software. The two most popular being IBM VIA VOICE and DRAGON SPEECH.
IBM Via Voice is more suitable for people with dictation experience. However
in both cases the PC must be programmed to act on the users voice, to do this
the user must say a number of pre-written statements which is in the programme,
and a lot of sufferers may need help to do this. To fully programme (to work
the PC without a keypad) may take up to 6 months. It will also scan important
letters/paperwork and read it aloud back to you,you can then reply by dictating
to the computer. The price of this software is between £70--£130.
there are also a number of programmes which help spelling and number work all
of which have had good reports. For further in formation go to contact page.
